SOP FOR CLEANING OF BARREL PUMP

  1. OBJECTIVE

To lay down the procedure for cleaning of barrel pump.

  • SCOPE

The SOP is applicable in stores for operation of barrel pump during transfer of solvents.

  • PROCEDURE
    • After completion of dispensing take the barrel pump to the washing area after wrapping in a polythene bag & affix “To Be Cleaned” label with dated signature.
    • Take approx. 20 ltrs. Potable water in suitable vessel and dip the inlet and drain through the outlet.
    • Wash the outer surface with plenty of potable water.
    • Teepol solution 0.1% shall be used for viscous materials like (Propylene Glycol, Glycerin & Sorbitol Solution etc.) followed by purified water for final rinsing. Compressed air to be used for the removal of water droplets for the drying purpose.
      • Solvent like Isopropyl Alcohol, Methylene Chloride, and Acetone etc. Shall be clean with compressed air to remove the solvent droplets. Only outer surface shall be clean with purified water and inner surface shall be clean with compressed air.
    • Take approx 20 ltrs. Potable water in suitable vessel and dip the inlet and drain through the outlet. Repeat the process again.
    • Finally rinse the barrel pump with Purified water.
    • Dry with compressed air.
    • Clean outer surface by wet mopping.
    • Wipe the barrel pump with dry lint free cloth.
    • Cover the barrel pump with polythene and mark the status label.
    • If the cleaned barrel pump remains unused for 48 hours (2 days), it should be cleaned externally by moping with dry lint free cloth.
    • Enter the details in “Cleaning Record for Utensils Used in Dispensing of Raw Materials”.
