CLEANING & SANITIZATION OF OVER HEAD POTABLE WATER STORAGE TANK

1. OBJECTIVE

        To lay down the procedure for Cleaning & Sanitization of over head potable water storage tank.

• SCOPE

This SOP is applicable in water system Cleaning & Sanitization of over head potable water storage tank.

•    PROCEDURE:
  •            Cleaning:
    • Open the lid of the storage tank.
    • Drain the water from potable water storage tank.
    • Ensure proper lighting and air circulation inside the storage tank.
    • Prepared the 10 liter of sodium hypochlorite solution 1.0% in water (Take 100 ml of sodium hypochlorite add 9.9 lit of potable water in bucket) maintain the record of sodium hypochlorite solution preparation record.
    • Clean the storage tank walls with scrubber and rinse with water.
    • Drain the water.
    • Spray sodium hypochlorite solution 1.0% into the storage tank by using the spray container.
    • Close the lid of the tank and keep it for one hour.
    • Drain the water.
    • Use the tank for storage of Water and check chlorine in the water by using chlorine test kit. It should not be more than 2 ppm.

• Take the storage tank for use.
  •       Maintain the record of sanitization and cleaning record of potable water storage tank.
  •            Frequency: At least once in three month (If required)
